Who doesn’t love an intimate winter wedding in the heart of Lake Country? Lake Country is beautiful year-round, boasting beautiful waterfronts and historic, small town charm. Of course, I think we overlook how beautiful it can be when blanketed with a fresh, sparkling layer of snow. So what better day for fresh snow in Lake Country than the first of the year–and a wedding day at that?
The snow made everything seem magical, and even reverent. And for a couple as classy as Matt and Joanna, I wouldn’t hope for anything less. The snow made it feel like Lake Country was putting on its best for their big day. So maybe Lake Country can boast intimate winter wedding elegance in addition to its other features!
Matt and Joanna’s New Year’s Day wedding was truly an elegant family affair. It was so sweet and personal–with just a small list guests that came from all across the states. In short, their day was perfectly lovely and endlessly beautiful. Possibly the most perfect winter wedding that Lake Country has ever seen. And the historic location they chose for their portraits (Delafield Fish Hatchery) flawlessly matched the elegance of their wedding day (and of the bride herself!). But don’t just take my word for it–go ahead and see for yourself!
What memory from your wedding do you remember the most strongly?
Spending all of our time with friends and family and being able to just enjoy the day. Sitting down at the reception with our whole family and all of our friends was just a very special, heart-warming thing.
Funniest moment on your wedding day?
Joanna: It was a very cold day, so after pictures I was very cold and when we got to the church they wanted to steam my dress. So I was standing in a big winter coat, drinking tea, dazed while people were holding my dress steaming it.
Matt: We were supposed to meet for couples pictures at a certain time. That time came and went and I hadn’t seen Joanna all day or even really heard from her. I wasn’t getting any answers to my texts and when I called all I got was a quick “I can’t talk to you right now”. My mind instantly shot to, “I wonder if she’s having second thoughts, etc.” Turns out, people were just running a little slow and they were just getting her in her dress. Oops.
What advice would you give to future couples who are getting married?
Relax. NOTHING on your wedding day is worth stressing yourself out too much and ruining all the time leading up to your wedding day. Your marriage is more important than your wedding.
