Well, our long-awaited kitchen reveal is finally here! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! And it’s about time!
We started on this project just over a year ago. It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a year, actually. Like most people, we feel like we’ve aged a decade in the last nine months. But no matter–we have a beautiful and welcoming kitchen in which we can waste away!
I won’t make you read a giant story before getting to the pictures…because honestly, I know that’s why you’re here. But this kitchen reveal just wouldn’t be right without sharing a little bit of the story. So without further ado…
These are actually the photos from the online listing, when our house was on the market.
There is so much that I could say about these pictures. It feels like a lifetime ago that our kitchen looked like this. Actually, it kinda was. It only looked like this for a very short time before we ripped out the upper cabinets and the weird soffit and exposed a GIANT sewer vent pipe.
Sorry for the quality–my husband snapped these for me on his phone right before we started our remodel, actually. We almost forgot to take these, and while they are TERRIBLE, I’m glad that we have them.
Shortly after we took down the uppers and ripped out the soffit, Ricky ended up deploying for almost a year, so our kitchen looked pretty much like the above images for the first year that I lived in this house.
Note: If I didn’t invite you over, this is why. It was kind of embarrassing to entertain.
But after Ricky returned from deployment, we started on our remodel almost immediately. And BOY WAS IT A MESS. We ended up stripping it down to the studs, which was a very good thing, since we found some pretty nasty water damage. As well as a few layers of flooring and some old newspapers that were used for insulation.
Needless to say, it wasn’t pretty. But it was so worth it. The year of tedious planning and waiting and working was COMPLETELY worth it, because I have a kitchen that I LOVE.
It’s not 100% done. There are a few details left to finish it off, and ultimately, we will have an island with seating… But for now, we are happy and warm and very at home here in our kitchen. So here it is…
To be completely honest… I’m obsessed. I spend more time in the kitchen now than in any other room. Not that I’m surprised, but I figured it was worth mentioning. IT’S SO PRETTY.
I know a proper kitchen reveal will link to all of the different places that we sourced materials and products from… When the whole kitchen is completely done, I will put together a post with links to all of our sources. But until then, I can simply say that we got pretty much everything from Home Depot, Zuern, and Target.
Thanks for following along on this journey. It has certainly been a year for the books, and we are grateful.
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop them in the comments!
